WOODCOCK (using shooting)

My own personal favourite as the weather cools and frost sets in, the sight of an air of springer spaniels working the covers to flush the woodcock is a wonderful sight. Then of course there’s the job of shooting the bird (no easy task), finishing with the retrieve to hand from the chaser dog. It really is rough shooting at its best and with within excess of 10 bags the order of the day, this pursuit comes highly recommended. The season takes place from November 1st to 31st January.
